DUOTTS C29 Lite – Entry-Level Urban E-Bike 250W, Legally Compliant, 65km Range

The C29 Lite is the most accessible model in the DUOTTS urban range: a 250W motor, 36V 13Ah battery and 27.5×2.25” tyres in a robust steel frame. At 25 km/h maximum motor-assisted speed and 65km range, the C29 Lite is fully EPAC-compliant without any modifications — the straightforward choice for everyday city commuting.

250W Motor 36V 13Ah Battery 65km Range Mechanical Disc 27.5×2.25” Wheels EPAC Compliant

Unlike the C29-L and C29-K which require a speed limiter adjustment to stay legal, the C29 Lite operates at exactly 25 km/h maximum — always within EU EPAC regulations. No hidden unlock codes, no grey areas. The steel frame adds durability at the cost of a small weight penalty (27.8kg), making it a solid choice for riders who want a reliable, low-maintenance commuter.

250W EPAC-compliant motor – the simplest legal classification

In the EU, an EPAC (EN 15194) must have a motor of 250W nominal power and cut out at 25 km/h. The C29 Lite meets both criteria natively — no speed limiter to unlock, no legal grey area. This matters for insurance, liability and access to cycling infrastructure (bike lanes, cycle paths) where higher-powered e-bikes may be restricted.

Steel frame vs aluminium – the practical trade-off

The C29 Lite uses a steel frame, unlike the aluminium frames on the C29-L and C29-K. Steel is heavier (27.8kg total) but more resistant to dents and easier to repair if damaged. For commuters who lock their bike in public and aren’t carrying it up stairs regularly, steel is a practical choice.

Note: the C29 Lite has no Smart App connectivity. Speed modes and settings are managed directly from the handlebar display unit — a simpler setup for riders who don’t want to manage a smartphone app.

Frequently Asked Questions – DUOTTS C29 Lite

Is the C29 Lite 100% street-legal without any modifications?
Yes. The C29 Lite has a 250W nominal motor and a 25 km/h motor cut-off, which meets EU EPAC (EN 15194) requirements. It can be ridden on public roads, bike lanes and cycle paths without a licence, registration or insurance in most EU countries. No modifications required.
Why does the C29 Lite not have the Smart App?
The C29 Lite is positioned as a straightforward, entry-level commuter. The lack of app connectivity keeps the system simpler and reduces potential points of failure. All essential functions — speed modes, battery level, trip data — are accessible from the handlebar display.
How do mechanical disc brakes compare to hydraulic ones?
Mechanical disc brakes use a cable to activate the caliper; hydraulic ones use fluid pressure. Hydraulic brakes offer more consistent modulation and self-adjust as pads wear. Mechanical disc brakes are easier to adjust at home and cheaper to service but require more frequent cable tension checks. For urban riding at 25 km/h, mechanical discs are entirely adequate.
Can I upgrade the battery for more range later?
The C29 Lite uses a 36V system. Any replacement battery must be 36V compatible. Upgrading to a larger capacity (e.g. 15Ah or 17Ah) in the same 36V format is possible if a compatible module is available. Switching to a 48V battery is not compatible without replacing the motor and controller.
