The 250W conversion kit turns an ordinary bicycle — MTB, city or trekking — into a discreet e-bike with smooth pedal assistance. It is a 250W kit with speed limited to 25 km/h, with a twist throttle and PAS sensor in the box. The brushless gearless direct-drive motor has no gears to wear out and no brushes to replace: force is transmitted magnetically, straight from the stator into the rim. The result is a motor that is practically silent, with a very long service life and almost zero maintenance.

Worth knowing: This is a 250W kit with speed limited to 25 km/h and a twist throttle. Moving up to 48V does not raise the top speed — it adds torque and a better reserve on climbs and when pulling away.

A double-wall rim, chosen for the motor's torque

The MTX rim has a double alloy wall precisely to take the torque transmitted by the hub motor — an ordinary single-wall rim can deform over time under this kind of load. For the same reason the kit also includes two torque arms: they clamp to the frame and take the torque off the axle so it is not carried by the dropouts alone.

A dual-mode controller, for when a sensor fails

The controller normally works with the motor's Hall sensors, for smooth starts and a precise throttle response. If a sensor fails it switches automatically to non-Hall mode and the motor keeps running, so you are not left stranded. The brake levers cut power to the motor instantly at the first touch.

What the 250W kit does best

Quiet and discreet

A motor under 60 dB with no noisy gears, and low battery consumption.

A first DIY conversion

The easiest kit in the range to fit, with the freewheel sprocket in the box and colour-coded wiring.

Smooth pedal assistance

The PAS sensor and twist throttle help when you need them, so longer rides finish with less fatigue.

Choosing the battery

The kit ships without a battery. When ordering you can add one of the batteries below, chosen for this kit, all with a key lock and charger included. You can see more in the e-bike batteries category.

Recommended batteries for this kit

250W or 500W? When it is worth going up

250W is enough for flat ground and a total weight (you plus the bike) under 85 kg. If you have regular gradients above 8–10%, carry heavy loads or go over 85 kg, the 500W kit gives you the margin you need. The 500W step gives you 50% more torque (30 N·m against 20 N·m) and speeds of up to 35 km/h.

Warranty and spare parts

The motor carries a 24-month warranty and the electronic components 12 months. Spare parts and accessories are available in the eBike parts section. Compare every power option in the conversion kits category, from 250W up to 3000W.

Frequently asked questions about the 250W kit

Is the battery included in the kit?
No. The kit contains the complete electrical side – motor wheel, freewheel sprocket, controller, SW900 display, PAS sensor, throttle, brake levers, two torque arms and wiring – but the battery and charger are bought separately, so you can choose the range that suits you. When ordering you can add one of the kit's optional batteries.
Do you offer kit installation in Bucharest?
Yes. We install kits bought from all4ebikes at our workshop in Bucharest, Sector 4. Installation takes 2–3 hours and is done by appointment only: message us on WhatsApp at +40 773 949 024 and we agree the day. We do not install kits bought from other sellers.
What range does the 250W kit give?
Range depends on the battery, the total weight and the terrain. Based on our battery table, the 36V 15Ah battery (540 Wh) gives an estimated 55–65 km on a charge, and the 36V 20.5Ah (738 Wh) 65–85 km, under normal use.
Which batteries can I add to the 250W kit when ordering?
You can choose between the 36V 15Ah Downtube Battery and 36V 20.5Ah Downtube Battery, both available as options on this kit's page.
What speed does the 250W kit give?
It is a 250W kit with speed limited to 25 km/h. It includes a twist throttle and a PAS sensor, and the motor stays under 60 dB. For more torque when pulling away and on climbs, see the 500W kit.
Do I have to move the sprocket over from my old wheel?
No. The freewheel sprocket is included in the box, so you do not need to remove the one on your old wheel. It fits onto the motor wheel during installation, and the step is described in the guide in the box.
How long does fitting take and what tools do I need?
On average 2–3 hours. Hex keys of 2.5, 3 and 5 mm, an adjustable spanner and a screwdriver are enough. You do not need any specialist workshop tools. The fitting guide is included in the box.
Does it fit any bicycle?
The kit is compatible with standard frames with a 135 mm rear axle, in 26″, 27.5″ and 29″ wheel versions. Check the axle width and wheel size before ordering. The rim is prepared for both disc brakes and V-brakes.
