The full twist throttle works by rotating the entire grip — similar to a motorcycle throttle, but using contactless electronic technology instead of a mechanical cable. Inside, a permanent magnet moves relative to the fixed Hall sensor as you twist your wrist. The sensor generates a DC signal proportional to the angle of rotation: 0.84V at idle, 4.2V at full twist. The controller interprets this voltage in real time and adjusts current to the motor in milliseconds.

Contactless Hall sensor — why it outlasts mechanical throttles

Unlike potentiometer throttles (variable resistors) that wear through physical contact, the Hall sensor has no parts in direct contact. The magnet and sensor never touch — the interaction is purely magnetic. The result is a practically unlimited service life for the detection mechanism, regardless of how many times you twist the throttle. The only wear point is the return spring, which can be replaced independently.

Proportional signal — precise power control

The 0.84V–4.2V signal is perfectly proportional to the rotation angle: a small twist produces a small signal, a full twist produces the maximum signal. The controller interprets this voltage and adjusts current to the motor in real time. There are no steps or fixed positions — power increases smoothly from zero to maximum, similar to a car accelerator.

Integrated battery indicator

The throttle includes a 3-level LED battery indicator that shows approximate battery state directly on the handlebar, without needing to look at the SW900 display. Particularly useful at start-up to quickly check charge level before setting off.

Full twist vs Thumb throttle: a full twist throttle provides more control at higher speeds and is preferred by riders with motorcycle experience. Installation Steps

  • Remove the existing grip from the right side of the handlebar
  • Slide the throttle onto the handlebar — standard 22.2mm diameter
  • Tighten the mounting clamp
  • Connect the 3-pin cable to the throttle port on the controller
  • Test the signal with a multimeter before first use: ~0.84V at idle, ~4.2V at full twist

Troubleshooting

  • Motor does not respond to throttle — check wire order (GND black / VCC red / SIG green)
  • Motor starts on its own at idle — idle signal exceeds 1V, throttle is faulty
  • Insufficient maximum power — check that full-twist signal reaches at least 3.6V
