Description

eBike Controller 48V–72V 45A – 3-Mode Sine Wave with Self-Learning for 1500W–3000W Brushless Motors

Intelligent sine wave controller with 15 MOSFETs, 3 operating modes (Hall / non-Hall / self-learning) and multi-voltage compatibility: 48V/52V/60V/72V. Designed for 1500W–3000W brushless gearless motors, it delivers smooth, quiet power transfer with full protection — including regenerative braking at 48V/52V.

48V–72V 45A Max 15 MOSFETs Sine Wave 3 Modes IP65

The key difference of this controller over standard square wave versions is its 3-mode sine wave technology: Hall mode (pure sine wave, quiet and efficient), non-Hall mode (automatic switch-over if Hall sensors fail) and self-learning mode (automatically identifies the correct motor phase combination). At 45A maximum current and 48V/52V/60V/72V compatibility, it is the natural choice for the 1500W and 2000W kits in the All4eBikes range.

Why 3 operating modes matter in practice

Single-mode controllers have one critical vulnerability: if the motor's Hall sensors fail, the motor stops completely. This controller runs across 3 independent modes. Mode 1 (Hall + sine wave) delivers the smoothest start-up and lowest noise. Mode 2 (non-Hall + square wave) kicks in automatically if the Hall sensors develop a fault — the motor keeps running without interruption. Mode 3 (self-learning) identifies and stores the correct motor phase order in 30 seconds, eliminating the most common installation error.

Regenerative braking — energy recovery at 48V/52V

At 48V and 52V, the controller supports regenerative braking in 4 configurable levels (off, weak, standard, strong). Regenerative braking converts kinetic energy back into electricity during braking, extending battery range by 5–15% depending on terrain and riding style. This function is not available at 60V/72V on this controller version.

Integrated protections

Complete protection included: overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, overload, overheating, motor lock and anti-runaway. The black anodised aluminium casing acts as a passive heatsink. Operating temperature: −40°C to +80°C.

Regenerative braking: this function is only active at 48V and 52V. If your system runs at 60V or 72V and you need regenerative braking, choose the 60A controller, which supports this function at all voltages.

Which Kits It's Recommended For

1500W MTX Kit

A direct replacement or sine wave upgrade for the 35A controller in the 1500W MTX conversion kit. Delivers 10A extra headroom and 3-mode operation.

2000W MTX Kit

Compatible with the 2000W MTX conversion kit — same 45A current rating as the kit's native controller, with the added benefit of sine wave and regenerative braking at 48V/52V.

Custom DIY Builds 1500W–2000W

Ideal for DIY builders assembling a custom e-bike with a 1500W or 2000W hub motor who want sine wave without stepping up to 60A.

Recommended Batteries

At 45A maximum current, the battery must have a BMS rated for at least 40A continuous discharge. Our recommendations:

48V 22.5Ah Downtube Battery

The balanced option for 48V systems with active regenerative braking — 40A BMS, 60–90 km range. View the 48V 22.5Ah battery.

52V 20Ah Triangle Battery

The optimal voltage for maximum performance — weight centred in the frame, built-in LCD display, 45A BMS. View the 52V 20Ah Triangle battery.

Important: the controller's 45A maximum current must stay within the BMS discharge limit of the battery. An undersized BMS will trip into protection mode under maximum load.

Installation and Wiring

Installation Steps

  • Connect the motor phase wires (3 wires) to the controller outputs
  • Connect the Hall sensor connectors from the motor
  • Connect the battery — observe polarity
  • Connect the display, throttle, PAS sensor and brake sensors
  • Run the self-learning procedure with the wheel lifted before first use

Safety and Maintenance

  • Do not cover the casing — passive thermal dissipation requires airflow
  • Periodically check phase connector tightness
  • Never exceed the BMS discharge limit of the associated battery
  • Operating temperature: −40°C to +80°C

Frequently Asked Questions About the 45A eBike Controller

What is the difference between the 45A and the 60A controller in the All4eBikes range?
The 45A controller has 15 MOSFETs and supports motors from 1500W to 3000W, with regenerative braking available at 48V/52V only. The 60A controller has 18 MOSFETs, supports the same power range with more current headroom, and has no voltage restriction for regenerative braking. Choose 45A for 1500W and 2000W kits at 48V/52V, and 60A for 2000W and 3000W kits at 60V/72V or when maximum current headroom is needed.
Does regenerative braking work at 60V or 72V?
No — on this controller, regenerative braking is only active at 48V and 52V. If your system runs at 60V or 72V and you need regenerative braking, choose the 60A controller from our range, which supports this function at all voltages.
What happens if I connect the phase wires incorrectly?
With the self-learning function active, an incorrect phase combination does not damage the motor or controller. After the self-learning procedure (wheel lifted, 30 seconds), the controller automatically identifies and stores the correct phase order. It is the most common installation mistake and this function eliminates it entirely.
Is it compatible with the SW900 display included in All4eBikes kits?
Yes, the UART protocol of this controller is compatible with the SW900 display included in the 500W–3000W MTX kits. Check the connector type (5 or 6 pin) for a direct fit. Displays using a different communication protocol are not compatible.
