Description

eBike Controller 36V–48V 22A – Sine Wave with Self-Learning for 250W–500W Brushless Motors

Compact sine wave controller with 9 MOSFETs, 36V/48V compatibility and 22A maximum current — designed for 250W–500W brushless gearless motors. A direct replacement or upgrade for low to mid-power conversion kits, with phase self-learning, E-ABS regenerative braking and 3 operating modes in a lightweight, thermally efficient format.

36V / 48V 22A Max 9 MOSFETs Sine Wave Hall + Non-Hall IP65

The 22A controller is the most compact in the All4eBikes range and targets 250W and 500W kits directly — 36V and 48V voltages, 22A current and 500W power represent exactly the operating range of these motors. The 9-MOSFET format keeps running temperature low and dimensions minimal, making it ideal for bikes with limited frame or handlebar space — folding bikes, city bikes or smaller frames.

9 MOSFETs at 22A — compact format, low operating temperature

At 22A maximum current, the 9-MOSFET configuration keeps operating temperature lower per transistor compared to more heavily loaded designs — each MOSFET handles under 2.5A, reducing thermal stress and extending component lifespan. The IP65 anodised aluminium casing provides passive thermal dissipation and full dust and splash protection, with no fan and no moving parts.

E-ABS braking — controlled braking similar to automotive ABS

The E-ABS (Electronic Anti-lock Braking System) function controls the regenerative braking level to prevent the drive wheel from locking, similar in principle to automotive ABS. When the brake sensors are triggered, the controller gradually reduces regenerative braking current rather than cutting it abruptly, giving more controlled braking while recovering energy at the same time. Particularly useful in wet conditions or during emergency stops.

The lightest controller in the range — fits any bike

The compact format and low weight (under 400g) make this controller ideal for bikes with limited space — folding bikes, city bikes or smaller frames. It mounts discreetly on the frame with velcro or cable ties, without requiring a dedicated bracket or frame modification.

Recommendation: this controller is optimised for 250W–500W at 36V and 48V. For 500W motors that need more peak current, or for 1000W, choose the 26A or 35A controller from our range.

Which Kits It's Recommended For

250W MTX Kit

A direct replacement or sine wave upgrade for the standard controller in the 250W MTX kit — same 22A current, with sine wave, E-ABS and self-learning added.

500W MTX Kit

A compact 36V option for the 500W MTX kit — 22A comfortably covers 500W at 36V and 48V with a good safety margin.

DIY Builds and Upgrades

A universal replacement for any 36V/48V system from 250W to 500W, including e-bikes with a failed controller or upgrades from square wave to sine wave.

Recommended Batteries

At 22A maximum current, the battery must have a BMS rated for at least 20A continuous discharge. Our recommendations:

36V 15Ah Downtube Battery

The compact and accessible option for 36V systems — 20A BMS, ~540Wh, down tube mounting with key lock. View the 36V 15Ah battery.

48V 17.5Ah Downtube Battery

The balanced option for 48V systems — 35A BMS, 50–80 km range, down tube mounting. View the 48V 17.5Ah battery.

Important: the controller's 22A maximum current must stay within the BMS discharge limit of the battery. Always verify compatibility before ordering.

Installation and Wiring

Installation Steps

  • Connect the motor phase wires (3 wires) to the controller outputs
  • Connect the Hall sensor connectors from the motor
  • Connect the battery — observe polarity
  • Connect the display, throttle, PAS sensor and brake sensors
  • Run the self-learning procedure with the wheel lifted before first use

Safety and Maintenance

  • Do not cover the casing — passive thermal dissipation requires airflow
  • Periodically check phase connector tightness
  • Never exceed the BMS discharge limit of the associated battery
  • Operating temperature: −40°C to +80°C

Frequently Asked Questions About the 22A eBike Controller

What is the difference between the 22A and the 26A controller?
The 22A controller with 9 MOSFETs is optimised for 250W–500W and is the most compact and lightest in the range. The 26A controller with 12 MOSFETs covers 500W–1000W and provides 4A more current headroom for heavier loads or steeper climbs. Choose the 22A for 250W and 500W kits in normal use, and the 26A if you need more current reserve at 500W or have a 1000W motor.
What is E-ABS and how does it differ from standard regenerative braking?
Standard regenerative braking cuts motor current abruptly when the brake is applied and redirects it to the battery. E-ABS (Electronic Anti-lock Braking System) controls the regeneration level gradually to prevent the drive wheel from locking — similar to automotive ABS — which is especially useful on wet roads or during emergency stops. The level is set from the display.
Can I use this controller with a 52V battery?
No — this controller is designed for 36V and 48V. Connecting a 52V battery can exceed the maximum voltage of the internal components and cause irreversible damage. For 52V systems choose the 35A or 45A controller from our range, which explicitly supports 52V.
Is it compatible with the SW900 display included in All4eBikes kits?
Yes, the UART protocol of this controller is compatible with the SW900 display. Check the connector type (5 or 6 pin) for a direct fit with the kit wiring.
