Unlike standard square wave controllers, sine wave technology generates a pure sinusoidal signal to the motor, eliminating vibration, reducing noise and improving energy transfer efficiency. Sine Wave vs Square Wave — why it matters at 60A

At high currents (60A), the difference between sine wave and square wave becomes critical. A square wave controller generates a stepped signal to the motor, producing mechanical vibration, audible noise and additional heat losses. A sine wave controller generates a continuous sinusoidal signal, similar to mains supply, which means smoother start-up, noise below 60 dB, higher efficiency and less thermal stress on the motor windings at maximum load.

Phase self-learning function

Incorrect phase wire combinations between controller and motor are one of the most common installation errors. The self-learning function eliminates this problem: after a 30-second procedure with the wheel lifted off the ground, the controller automatically identifies the correct phase order and stores it permanently. No need to manually test all six possible combinations.

Integrated protections

The controller includes complete protection: overvoltage, undervoltage (cut-off at 40V), overcurrent, overload, overheating, motor lock and anti-runaway. The black anodised aluminium casing acts as a passive heatsink, dissipating heat from the MOSFETs without a fan and without moving parts.

Display compatibility: this controller uses the UART protocol and is compatible with SW900 and UKC1 displays. It is not compatible with displays using a different protocol — check the connector type (5 or 6 pin) before connecting.

Important: the controller's 60A maximum current must stay within the BMS discharge limit of the battery. An undersized BMS will trip into protection mode and cut power to the motor under maximum load.

Installation and Wiring

Installation Steps

  • Connect the motor phase wires (3 thick wires) to the XT150 outputs
  • Connect the Hall sensor connectors (6-pin) from the motor
  • Connect the battery via the XT90 connector — observe polarity
  • Connect the display, throttle, PAS sensor and brake sensors
  • Run the self-learning procedure with the wheel lifted before first use

Frequently Asked Questions About the 60A eBike Controller

What is the difference between a sine wave and a square wave controller?
A sine wave controller generates a continuous sinusoidal signal to the motor, resulting in smoother start-up, less noise, higher efficiency and less heat at the motor windings. A square wave controller generates a stepped signal — simpler and cheaper, but noisier and less efficient at maximum load. At 60A, the efficiency and noise difference is significant.
What happens if I connect the phase wires incorrectly?
With the self-learning function active, an incorrect phase combination does not damage the motor or controller. After the self-learning procedure (wheel lifted, 30 seconds), the controller automatically identifies and stores the correct phase order. Without self-learning, an incorrect combination can cause the motor to spin in the wrong direction or fail to start.
Is it compatible with the SW900 display included in All4eBikes kits?
Yes, the UART protocol of this controller is compatible with the SW900 display included in the 500W–3000W MTX kits. Check the connector type (5 or 6 pin) for a direct fit. Displays using a different communication protocol are not compatible.
What battery do I need to run this controller at full capacity?
You need a battery whose BMS supports at least 45–60A continuous discharge current. We recommend the 52V 20Ah Triangle or 72V 20Ah Triangle battery from the All4eBikes range — both have BMS ratings dimensioned for the high currents required at 60A controller.
